Barb Jungr Sings Bob Dylan
Man In The Long Black Coat

"As a Dylan interpreter, Jungr is right up there with Simone or The Byrds."
    The BBC 2011.

Record Collector 5 stars
The Times  4 stars
The Sunday Times 5 stars
The Independent 4 stars
Rock'n'Reel 4 stars
Downbeat Magazine 4 stars
The Guardian 4 stars

"Even if Dylan's records were melted down tomorrow, the restless vitality Barb Jungr finds in their content will survive.
Except for Dylan himself on a good night, this is the best way to hear his songs."
     The Independent , London

Barb Jungr may be the definitive performer of one of the great musical icons of the twentieth century, Bob Dylan. In a BBC hosted concert at the Barbican in 2005 to celebrate his work, Billy Bragg described Jungr as "possibly our best interpreter of Dylan's songs". He is not alone in this view, as Jungr has been wowing audiences and critics worldwide with her astonishingly powerful reinterpretations of the great songwriter's work.

"Casually virtuosic" (The Guardian)

This live collection celebrates Barb’s long association with the songs of Bob Dylan and the release of her second CD of the great songwriter’s work - Man In The Long Black Coat
on Linn Records. The album has had 5 and 4 star reviews in the UK, and is released in the US on September 27, 2011 to coincide with her second coast to coast US tour.

"The Manchester born and London-based chanteuse is one of the best interpreters of Jacques Brel and Bob Dylan anywhere on this angst ridden planet today.
Always beautifully sung and profoundly acted. Even the patter is pithy
."     The Village Voice, New York

Widely regarded as “the foremost interpreter of Bob Dylan’s back catalogue” (The Independent), Barb’s new recording, which features several tracks not released by her before (Sara, Man In The Long Black Coat, It Ain’t Me Babe and With God On Our Side) marks the culmination of a decade-long affair with the work of Bob Dylan; as Barb states “Once I had started singing Dylan’s songs I couldn’t stop”

“Brings the same creative capacity for reinterpretation and re-examination that Ella Fitzgerald brought to Cole Porter.”   The Wall Street Journal

Variously described by critics as magnificent, mesmerizing and magical and favorably compared to Nina Simone, Peggy Lee and Edith Piaf, Barb Jungr has, in recent years, built a formidable reputation on the international cabaret stage. With her stunningly evocative interpretations of songs from what she champions as the ‘Great New American Songbook’ (includes, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Jacques Brel, Bruce Springsteen and many more), Barb has taken the art of jazz cabaret singing and imbued it with new vitality and relevance for the 21st

"I just hope Dylan himself has a listen and starts writing for her direct." The Observer

Barb has just returned from a sellout tour of the USA during which she received rave reviews for her collection of Bob Dylan's songs - The Man In The Long Black Coat.

"In 2002, the British singer Barb Jungr released "Barb Jungr sings Bob Dylan: Every Grain of Sand," which is, as far as I'm concerned, the most significant vocal album of the 21st century thus far—certainly the one that's had the most profound impact on me, personally. Ms. Jungr was the first to show, and brilliantly so, that Dylan songs can be "unlocked" by singers outside of the folk and rock genres and that they're no less suitable as raw material for reinterpretation than those of Gershwin or Berlin.  She forges a truly cosmic connection between singer and songwriter, performer and material, artist and art." The Wall Street Journal
"A fearless iconoclast who dives into the deepest waters of popular song to wrest exotic treasure from the ocean floor." The New York Times
"she is THE reason why cabaret continues to find a new audience. And if that’s an overstatement, it gives her a goal which she will unquestionably accomplish. In a reasonably short amount of time, she has emerged as one part educator, one part icon, and all parts made of static electricity that will never cease to crackle across the wide oceans." (The Andrew Martin page)
" her revelatory show at the Metropolitan Room, she provides stunning, deeply personal renditions of 13 Dylan classics in which every word shines with crystal clarity." The New York Post

Barb is wholly passionate about songs and singing, and this is never more apparent than in her live shows where she holds audiences spellbound with her revelatory interpretations and dramatic style of delivery. Slick and entertaining to the last, she balances these grand gestures with her innate sense of humor and comic timing.

“one of the very best nightclub singers in the world”
   Time Out, New York

Book me!

Book me! Book me!, the Jazz Music Agency, would like tp congratulate our artist Claire Martin, who has been appointed an O.B.E. in the Queen's Birthday 2011 Honours List for her services to music.

This honour reflects not only her brilliant recording career but also her dedication to jazz music as a whole. Claire has been a driving force behind the UK jazz scene for the past 25 years with career highlights including six British Jazz Awards, presenting BBC Radio 3's Jazz Line-Up and performing with musical luminaries such as Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, John Martyn and Stephane Grappelli.

Claire is overwhelmed and delighted to be receiving such an honour, saying: "Having dedicated my life to singing and to jazz music, it is a terrific feeling and an honour to gain such public recognition, especially for this wonderful art form, which so often gets overlooked. I wish to thank all the world class musicians who have, over the years, worked with me to create the music of which I am immensely proud. Enormous thanks also to my record label, Linn Records who have afforded me the luxury of total artistic freedom throughout my career. I look forward to more exciting music-making and to keeping the jazz flame burning brightly."

If you want to hear the First Lady of British Jazz for yourself you can enjoy her superb voice on any one of her bestelling albums or, for a more personal experience, catch Claire at one of her many live dates.
